Impossible Foods, the California company behind the meatless ‘Impossible Whopper’, is developing plant-based alternatives to traditional seafood and lab-grown fish substitutes using cells.

Impossible Foods has already successfully created an anchovy-flavoured broth made from plants. CEO Patrick Brown said: “It was being used to make paella, but you could use it to make Caesar dressing.” The fishless-fish project, still being tested, is part of Impossible Foods’ ambitions to produce replacements for every animal-based food on the market by 2035.
